The Indian vehicle market is getting diverse, with more people buying Electric Vehicles nowadays. With fuel prices rising and the need for saving resources becoming a necessity, EVs are now being preferred more, and considering this change, the Haryana Town and Country Planning Department has amended the Haryana Building Code (HBC-2017), making Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure mandatory in residential and non-residential buildings across the state. This amendment was a follow-up to a public notice issued by the Department of Town and Country Planning on April 27, 2026, inviting objections and suggestions from stakeholders and residents. Under these revised norms, group housing societies, cooperative housing projects, and residential complexes maintained by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) must provide one EV charging point for every 5 parking spaces where the parking is available for at least 10 cars. The rule also requires all parking spaces to be equipped with EV charging points. For non-residential buildings, including hospitals, shopping complexes, malls, and office spaces with parking spaces for at least 10 cars, developers must provide one EV charging station for every three parking spaces.

Final Verdict
Mandating EV charging points in Residential and non-residential buildings is a step forward in the future development of the city. This is a huge step towards a seamless infrastructure and a more eco-friendly city. It also counters the toll of fuel consumption. This move makes more people invest in the city as they get another box ticked off their requirement list.
