In our previous few blogs, we have discussed how the Bharatmala Pariyojana is transforming India's infrastructure. While we have covered most of it, there is one particular corridor that deserves its own separate chapter. Yes, we are talking about the mammoth Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This 1386 km long stretch, being part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana, is full of opportunities.  Let’s talk about all that’s great about this project and its current status.

The foundation stone was laid on 8th March for this engineering marvel of an expressway, and currently, it is nearing completion with 1015 km already laid down and 750+ km of the stretch being functional. This expressway has reduced the travel time to Jaipur by half and has also eased the congestion on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. UNIQUE FEATURES OF DELHI-MUMBAI EXPRESSWAY

  • Being the longest expressway in India, this corridor starts from the Sohna Elevated road and connects to  JLN Port in Mumbai, reducing travel time from 24 to 12 hours.

  • Built with high-speed design, this expressway will allow a speed limit of up to 120 km/h, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time. 

  • Created with the environment in mind, this project features 1 million trees planned along the corridor, solar-powered lights, Rainwater harvesting, and many more sustainable features

  • Built for the future with EV support, this expressway will contain EV charging ports at a proper interval. 

  • This project will help in the reduction of logistic costs and will also increase trade in the main cities of India.

  • Safety and smart features, including CCTV surveillance, medical facilities, and many more.


ENGINEERING MARVEL: THE MUKUNDTRA HILLS TUNNEL

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Tunnel

Achieving a unique milestone recently, a 4.9 km long 8-lane wide tunnel is being made through the Mukundra hills. This tunnel will run through the tiger reserve of Ranthambore and is being made with sustainability in mind. Not only this, it is designed in such a way that it won’t disturb any wildlife and will feature many animal passes which will help in the prevention of any lifestyle break for the animals. Constructed with the New Australian Tunneling Method (NATM), this tunnel is as amazing as it gets.

With the progress that this expressway is making, it is set to be fully functional by 2027. The wonders that the Bharatmala Pariyojana has created are astounding, as it is just the first phase; there is more to come, boosting the economy further.
